Solace: Bridges and required Connectors

Post by Bannor Bloodfist »

Bridges and Connectors, there are a bunch of these. All except the actual bridges are placed wrapping around the trunk of a tree and have animated lights on lamp posts or hanging lamps on the trees.
  • 1x1 tile, single end connector to standard straight on bridge. This tile also provides a stairwell to ground level. It will require that the builder of the mod paint a transition point at bridge level and ground level to facilitate translation up to the bridge or down to the ground.

1x1 tile, 2 connectors to straight on bridge, figure left and right connections or north / south connections to straight level bridges OR another connector type tree.

1x1 tile, 2 connectors to straight on bridge, 90 degrees difference, IE one pointing east, and one pointing north depending on how you rotate the tree, will connect to straight on bridges or other connectors only.

1x1 tile, 3 connections, figure "T" shapped, IE North, East, South or whatever direction you rotated the tree for. Will only connect to straight on bridges or connectors.

1x1 tile, 3 connections, figure "Y" shaped. This is designed to be one of the two types of connectors to the end of the angled bridge section which will be mentioned later. It has a South And West straight on connection and one Angled connection for the angled bridge.

1x1 tile, 4 connections, "X" shapped basically, but is for straight on bridge or connectors only, allows a bridge to extend in all four directions, North, East, South and West.

1 x 3 tiles, angled Bridge, has connections at each end, one is another Angled connection in case you wish to conntinue the angled bridge, the other end has a North and East connector with the angled connection already attached to the angled bridge between the two end trees of this group. Note that this angling of the tiles will require careful placement as it requires flat ground surrounding it, so basically a 3x3 section of flat ground that will allow the angled bridge to be painted between two opposing corners of the 3x3 section of ground. Sounds more complicated than it is, but it does bear the extra warning about painting it down. Also note that there is at least one major group that has angled bridges extending from it, so having an extra angled bridge hanging around does make sense.

1 x 1 tile, single bridge section, bows down in middle, will require a straight on connector tree at either end.
1 x 2 tiles, 2 bridge sections, again, bows down in the middle, will also require a straight on connector at either end
1 x 3 tiles, 3 bridge sections, again, bows down in the middle, will also require a straight on connector at either end
1 x 4 tiles, 4 bridge sections, again, bows down in the middle, will also require a straight on connector at either end
1 x 5 tiles, 5 bridge sections, again, bows down in the middle, will also require a straight on connector at either end
Please note that ALL of the actual bridge sections bow downwards in the center and up at each end. They would not make sense to connect directly together without having a tree connector at that point as it would look very odd for a hanging bridge to be bowing up where it meets without something to hold it up. That is why there are so many extra sized sections of bridging available.

Note that I will provide Top Down view pics without tree foliage at some point once I get some decent ground cover for the tiles.

Most if not all of these shots will be from inside 3ds max, this means that the alpha bits of textures will appear as black and you will see large sections of black in the various leafy sections.

Also note that these are in progress, and most particularly, the leafy sections will have a LOT of changes as we move forwards. These were the first Attempts by the original DLA members, and yet we had ONE group whereby they (DLA) were attempting a NEW way of creating multi-faceted textures for the leaves. So, expect some radical changes in those aspects of the various tiles.

Also note that ground colorization may also change as we get a better handle on how things were currently created and how we truly want them to look before release. So, expect more shots down the road.

1x1 tile, bridge platform to connect in a straight line between two bridge sections.

Image

1x1 tile, end of bridge, this will be intended as an end with nowhere else to go, possibly to be used as a guard station at the end of a bridge section. Likely the platform shape will change a bit as we go forwards. I am not real pleased with it's current shape.

Image

1x1 tile, 4 way intersection, where bridges can connect from all 4 sides.

Image

Of course, there are other connections like these, a "T" shaped or 3 way connection as well as some angled bridge connectors. The angled connectors can only be painted as groups as there is no way in game/toolset to paint an angled type of connection. Crossers only allow top/bottom or side/side types of connections, so to get around this, you are forced to build the entire angled section as a group. With one exception, that one exception is another end type, but it will only directly connect to an already placed angled bridge connection.

Image

Next up will be a shot of some of the Pre-sized sections of bridging. Since the single Bridge section droops in the center, it doesn't make sense to actually drag multiple single sections to pain a larger bridge as they would be going up/down on each connection and would look strange since there are no supporting sections to visually allow that to make sense. So, you would paint a platform at either end of one of the various bridge sections.

Image

That was a 4 wide section, pre-formed or pre-selected group. You can see how deep the sway is, or the droop.

Next up is a single bridge, along with a shot of several single bridges connected side-by-side to show you how bad it would look in game.

Image

That is enough for this posting I think. I will show some of the other special platforms a bit down the road. Note that ALL of these were taken from within 3ds max, this allowed me to remove some of the leafy bits to show you the actual platforms, but the downside is that the actual colorization is going to be a bit different in game. These are just teaser shots! :P
