Epilogue

“Having fun down there, Sis?”

Seryne opened her eyes to see Randyl peering down at her from the ledge above the lava she was floating in. She quickly made sure only her head and neck were above the surface of the molten rock. “Do you mind? I’m bathing here.” Seryne tried to sound annoyed.

“Only you would consider this a nice place to bathe.”

“You’d be surprised. The lava is really quite cleansing. The sweat and grime just melt away. You should try it.”

“Well, the sweat probably vaporizes, to be exact.”

“Whatever.”

“By the way, this place is pretty tough to get to. There are a lot of traps.”

“I know. I just fly over them.”

Randyl chuckled and Seryne allowed herself to smile.

“Randyl, is it wrong to feel like I’ve lost something today. It is not that I am worried about Amilielia. She’s stronger than both of us put together. It is just that I always felt just a little safer, knowing that she was around.”

Randyl simply nodded. They spent a few more minutes in silence.

“Alright, sis, stop sulking.” Randyl suddenly had that mischievous grin on his face. “Let’s go see what that new sword of yours can do.”

Seryne nodded. “Fine. Just go away so I can get dressed.”

As Seryne strapped on her armor and picked up her new sword, she made peace with herself regarding what had happened today. She had learned. She had grown stronger. She was ready.

Seryne Vail strode out of the cave to find her brother and their next adventure.
