Hesserian stormed out of the council chamber angry, defeated and dishonored. She had lead her people out of the darkness and into the light. She had conquered the orcs of the mountains with her small army and turned them into slaves. She prepared her people for the offworlders, even welcomed a new house Cassiopeia and her father had lingered here many months before a chance meeting with her sister drove them away.
Hesserian former head of the Brek'thrine council remembered their first meeting well. The things they told her. Araushunee did not exist. There were a handful of Elder fey' ri on a world they called Toril. How a villain called Ammothrawen once a personal guard of the goddess betrayed her people to work on the side of the Good gods.
Ah, That is now in the past but information she could someday use.
The council in its infinite wisdom took a vote of confidence and Dismissed her for the last decades failures. They said they needed new tactics of the younger leaders to quell this next threat. Kane a mercenary of legend had formed an army of Kenku to fight the orcs and take the hidden monastery. The stronghold in which now she stood.
Kane, She thought, Kane would bring much to bear on their small force. He had no love for anyone or anything. His name was destruction and chaos itself. Now that she was demoted and unlikely to bear any more children she could leave the family or set off on her own. possibly challenge one of the Tansue or the Makune. It would be a fitting end to end one of these traitors to the race or fight until she died by their hands. Better another sword master than a mass of heathen humans or other races that scar the surface of Sierra Na. There was one thing she might be able to do. That is go for help. There may be a way. She did not know if she was ready yet, but she would try.
Hesserian opened her door and went to the master bedroom. She ignored the guard and slaves about her. She undressed out of her formal gown and started to strap her armor. As she did she made preparations in her head. What was likely to be a force to stop her to the Prime shimmer? The Tansue, Sensai Makune, Haakons and the Forest maiden. The trolls and others were no real threat. The Tansue have not been active. It was spied that the head of the family has taken a dark elven wife and will not fight until He bore a child. Sensai Makune was reported to be quietly raising her child in the Tangwetsyl village and rarely stepped on her own. So most likely She need not fear for the other master Samurai in the area. That left Haakons and the Forest maiden. The forest maiden took out all evil within the elven woods. She was known to have died and come back changed by her spirits experiences in the outer planes. She shot first and asked questions later if anyone disturbed the forest. Haakons patrols to the south of the forest were not lax. rangers and paladins guarded to the boarder to the Great Savanna. Neither choice she liked. Both held their own dangers. She decided to wait for a break in Haakons guard movements rather than the forest maiden. She could avoid the patrols but the maiden would smell her out.
She belted her weapon on the armor and unsheathed it. Electrical charges danced along the blade. She felt herself within the blade. Her very spirit forged into the bright blade by her dead ancestors as she completed the ceremony of life and death. As all Elder fey'ri Samurai do, she touched the scar that cleaved her breastbone when she drove it threw her heart, when she thought about that dread day she was tested. Nothing in an Elder Fey'ri's life ever matches that one moment of clarity.
She sheathed the sword and picked up her pack as the new head of council came into the lavish apartment. No words were spoken. They did not need to be. Her time had come to an end. So said the council. It was His turn. As she walked out the door she handed him the keys to the apartment and left.
