Farmland Massacre

Post by foaloke »

The bloody evidence of a swath of slaughter can be seen extending from the camp outside Lapis Port west and northward. The patrolling miliamen are far more jittery than usual, especially the ones manning the northern road just beyond the caravan stop. Many rumors are circulating about the cause, but almost all agree that some massive beast was to blame and that it retreated into the northwest forest. What isn't clear is whether the beast left because of its wounds or after it had sated its ravenous hunger.

(overheard in Lapis Commons)

"I was saying a prayer in the Temple of Lathender when 2 of them halfling acrobats come runnin in all in a whir."

"Aren't they always?"

"They said some beasts that left big, weird, wolflike footprints had slaughtered the whole barbarian camp!"

"Mighty powerful fighters, those barbarians. Must have been some monstrous critters, less those halflings made it all up."

"No, the priestesses of Lathander organized a mission an they've been traveling to the camp under escort, trying to resurrect and cure everyone they can."

"Pretty scary, then. Best to stay in town."

"Yep. Hope the Morninglord keeps his eye on Lapis."

Several of the Lapis Port Militia claim to have seen a stalwart group of adventurers including a winged-elf and the Vail siblings heading past the ravaged badger clan camp. It is rumored that they were seeking the beast or beasts that have been attacking the region and the term "werewolf" was clearly heard. As they vanished beneath the forest canopy a full moon broke free of the cloud coverage and a cacophony of howls pierced the night's silence.
