Immersive Swamps and Hut Interiors

Post by lord rosenkrantz »

Alright, the vault seems to be slowly moving its focus on the release of nwn2, few new submissions, few people who still develop or build for nwn1.. or at least that's the impression I have. Anyway, hopefully these boards harbour those who still think that nwn1 has a future and not only a past.
Here then comes a bunch of screenies from two tilesets I recently released. I am quite happy with the way they turned out, let me know what you think about it. They should be very handy as they should cover fields that aren't covered by CTP, hehe.

You can download them from the vault.

Here the screenies:

Very cool! I like the shots L.R. ;) Swamp was always a much needed tileset and I know ours has a lot of pathfinding issues. Hope lots of peeps take advantage of the few of us still working on NWN 1 material.

Very nice looking set.

I just spent about 30 minutes or so playing with it in toolset and in game.

Overall, I am VERY impressed with the work.

I can't say I quite agree with the 'no-minimaps' idea though.

And I think it needs a bit more green, especially on the ferns. (I say this looking out the window along a wall covered in ferns)

Keep up the good work.

Don't forget, you have a place here if you ever wish to re-join the team.

Hey Lord L.,
Good to see you stopping by....I saw this set when it was first featured on the vault, and it does look really good. I hope you can work with the crew here to get those tilesets into a future CTP release....

My plans for the future include the release of new material, either brand-new tilesets (I am working on a Mountain tileset) or reworked pre-existing tilesets (a bunch are waiting completion).
It doesn't mean that things can't be worked out with CTP. In fact, if the quality of the material is good enough, it'd be nice to create tilesets directly for CTP, and not releasing it on the vault as indipendent submission.
Things could be discussed along these lines, I guess we'll see.

------------------------------------------------------

No minimaps:
next update I'll duplicate the .set file to offer both options, with or without minimaps

Ferns:
I am aware that in real life they are most of the time in shades of green, I went for the red ferns for two reasons mainly: one is that I loved the red ferns that were included in CEP, and so I thought to adapt them for use (my texture is different though, more refined and realistic); the second reason is that I wanted to give the swamps somewhat an exotic feel, and red ferns could work well for that, along with the tall grass (the reeds). All in all, it looks more like "a" swamp than "the typical swamp".
If i find the time I'll add more of the green type though, in fact now that I think of it, it should be an easy and automated task

The next expansions may include a raised terrain ( i have some good looking "gentle hill" models I made for the mountains that I could re-use), a lake-dwelling village (likely using Acropole's platform huts as starting material) and some more vegetation options for the three terrains.

-------------------------------------------------------------

If you guys have the time, I'd like some feedback about the Hut Interiors tileset as well. It is small, just a plugin for the swamps, but would be nice to hear something about the choice to go only for terrain/crosser combinations instead of the typical feature/groups of similar interior tilesets.
The way I built it (starting with 3/4 tiles from the Darkness over Draggerfold hak), the combos are way more than usual, and I think even more user-friendly than the feature/group system. But I wonder if I'm right about it

Adding huts and hills to this set would make it a fuller featured set and more useful.
The huts are great but a wider range of crossers/terrains would be nice. Using crossers allows to create a more random feel to each hut.
Yes, on the minimap/no minimap option.

This is an excellent set and it looks like a swamp too.
Thank LR
