Dialog.TLK - Erroneous Text Appears & Other Questions

Post by Pstemarie »
I keep getting erroneous text appearing. For example, during character creation all the the new spell names appear as "BAD STRREF" or some other nonsense.
This is caused by not having the correct version of dialog.tlk installed. NWN Enhanced uses a custom version of dialog.tlk. Make sure you are using the version of this file that comes prepackaged with NWN Enhanced and that it is installed in the main directory of NWN - usually C:/NeverwinterNights/NWN.

The NWN Enhanced version of dialog.tlk does NOT go in C:/NeverwinterNights/NWN/tlk - this folder is for custom .tlk files that are associated with individual modules through the Custom Content tab under Module Properties.

BE SURE TO BACK-UP THE ORIGINAL DIALOG.TLK IN A SAFE LOCATION.
How could you overwrite dialog.tlk!?! This is just EVIL!!
It was decided to overwrite dialog.tlk as this proved to be the most effective method for allowing builders to incorporate external content for use with NWN Enhanced that included its own custom .tlk file.

As everyone knows, numerous subsystems exist on the Vault that are reliant upon custom.tlk files. Merging these files is a lengthy process that often leads to a major headache. Furthermore, it is beyond the scope of NWN Enhanced to attempt to insure compliance with every subsystem on the Vault that uses a custon tlk. By including its own version of dialog.tlk, NWN Enhanced can freely update without worrying about compliance with external systems.
