Cloak Issues with the New Phenotypes

During testing it was revealed that cloaks can behave somewhat erratically when changing phenotypes. This is a limitation of the Aurora Engine. IT IS NOT AN ERROR CAUSED BY NWN ENHANCED. BioWare is aware of the situation, but to date no resolution has been identified or offered.

What happens: When you change a character’s phenotype with a cloak equipped the cloak is improperly stored in the buffer. If you unequip the cloak, the model will render correctly; however, when the original phenotype is restored the cloak reappears on the model. If you check the character’s inventory you will see that the cloak is not equipped. This also occurs if you drop the cloak (and the cloak does not appear in the character’s inventory).

You can duplicate this error with the BioWare horses by:

1. Equip a cloak on a character.
2. Mount a horse. The cloak disappears – this is by BioWare’s design.
3. Unequip or “drop” the cloak.
4. Dismount the horse.
5. The cloak reappears on the character. The character’s inventory will show that the cloak is not equipped (or missing entirely if dropped).

Workarounds: Through experimentation I have discovered one workaround that resolves the issue 100% of the time:

Save the game, quit, and reload the last save. This resets the buffer, eliminating the error – until the next phenotype change that is.
