@Jacen Saracen

You have a lot of good points in what you say in your post. My short answer to that is that we that want to do a legal, legit, widespread 'CMP' will have to take copyrights laws into account.

I will certainly do.

I will probably work for a CMP, my Endoora Project already has some thoughts that run parallel to a future CMP.

Those on these boards that feel they want to contribute to a CMP in any way could PM me, at first we need a small mission statement, then sort out how to go about creating the object of discussion.

Hi Grov,
I think the CMP is a neat idea, and I was always hoping someone would come along and do something like this. I do agree with the other posts that warn of doom and gloom for violating copyright laws, and it will probably be a tedious, time consuming project to be done legally right. Obviously, the files on the vault, and how they are rated, would be a great first source for useful music for the NWN community.....but I am sure to verify their copyright protection could be a daunting task. I think the music that has already been released by Bioware is more than enough to create the proper atmosphere for most PW's and mods, however it would be nice to have some newer expanded choices as well.

One thing that I think NWN is lacking in is the choices of sound effects...an area for your project that would be less scrutinized for copyright issues and could really give the CMP something the community could use. When I am talking about sound effects, I am talking about things like people drunk in bars, battle cries, and various city and nature type noises. Many of these things you could create yourself, and would not be a copyright issue. Every mod or PW that I have ever played had the exact same sounds in its towns and buildings...the same drunk voices or prostitutes yelling out the same things. For a creative and humorish type person, you could really come up with some great stuff...most of which could be edited and created on a home PC. Heck, you could even take a digital tape recorder to a renassiance festival and tape some of antics, or get a bunch of guys over for some beers and tape them while they do their best princess bride or monty python type impersonations. At least with this project, your are not tied down to graphics or scripting issues, so it could possibly be used by both NWN1 and NWN2. Best of luck to you on this project.....

Hmmm, combine them into a Community Sound Pack?

Well, I'll better start then!
And for the future of this project, I'd love to see it survive through the various editions of Neverwinter Nights incarnations.

Good point, I have pondered abit on the thoughts of including voicesets as well, so the idea of naming the project 'Music' Pack would unappropriate. Community Sound Pack seems to work, got me thinking, Community Audio Pack? Why all these 'Community' all the time... Gotta differentiate somewhere down the road. Gotta have a chatchy name not resembling the other community works.

What do you folks think of Neverwinter Audio Pack(NAP)?
Covers Voicesets, Music and SFX. I'll give it my ten cents.

Personally, I'd stick with either CSP or CAP. Coming up with a new acronym will just confuse people in the long run, far easier to remember CEP, CTP and CSP.

Also, not to take a dig at them or anything, but the C.R.A.P. acronym was funny the first couple of times, it is now just embarrising and no matter how wonderful their stuff is I just can't see myself downloading a hak from them.

Keep it simple, keep it in-line with what is currenty out there and keep it professional.

That's my 2 coppers,
Tristan.

Sorry guys, but NAP is already taken....

Nudes a Poppin (NAP) is the annual nudist festival in Indiana, and if people looking for your sound pack start typing NAP in search engines, everyone will be embarressed....

I'm glad that you are looking at other sounds than music as I had mentioned earlier, and with as many responses as there are on this post, there is obviously an interest in this project.

I was just reading on an E3 article that NWN2 will come with the ability for builders to add their own voice overs to their projects, and the animations of the lips are already coded to "animate" the sounds you place in them. It definately could make your project adaptable to NWN2 if you do voice bits...

Quick Reply:

I do want this pack to be done. I can do it. I will need help (but for now, if you have time to spare, help the CTP first!). Nothing is carved in stone yet.

So keep posting your thoughts in this.
Any input appreciated!

Cheers!

Community Audio Pack

Hey Grov, why not (CAP) for Community Audio Pack if your going music/voice/and sound

also I agree this should be done after CTP is out the door.

If you want me to help you with anything like finding voices or double checking copy rights (C) then I'll see what I can do... It's always been a dream to become a jack of all trades and voice acting is something I have dabbled with in high school anime club

try not to email me because I hardly get around to checking that now a days :p:

Well I looked into the NWN Vault for music and I have to say you old (20+) people have weird taste for music.

Alright I didn’t really look threw recently but, 2 month ago I did so that good enough...

Anyway I found some links to some great flow music (anime). Not all the songs could be legally adapted into NWN but a few should because of age.

I didn’t go on a paper hunt and their is nothing illegal about listening to music straight up so I'll put some linkage if anyone wants to listen in.
