... small suggestion to get a few wheels turning, make an Avatar on the Vault called CMP Team or somthing..
Good idea, but my own preference is that we get thosse wheels turning first and then go beating the drum.
I and Guru/Elarion had many lengthy discussions when we got the Collective up and running, then it all died down and nowadays I think Thrym is doing a great job maintaining the site and featuring PW interviews, but originally so much more was in the works with the Collective.
I'd rather see the internall collaboration starting and working before shouting all over googleland.
Comunity Music Pack? (CMP)
Presentation
Let's face it, how something is presented the first time usually predisposes how one react's to similiar or the same thing later. Remember the first time you got stung by a Bee, You probably stayed well away from bee's for the next month or so. Controversly, the first time you had icecream, you probably finished it and wanted more. Now if the first bowl of icecream you ever had was asparagus flavored you'd probably just as soon never touch icecream again.
I'm gonna agree with Grov that its a better tactic to have it done, presentation ready, and out the door before anyone know's your name. Likewise, its easy once you have a product out there to say "Got imput, want to improve it, join the team"

I agree too...
Hey guys,
I too have to agree with Mask (who I owe big time) and Grov on this one. I would much rather see us work on this from within with the crew we have here (in this forum on CTP) than to bring in the whole community...A few thoughts:
1. First, If we are going to do this, and do it right, then we do need to have something worth showing and talking about before doing any advertising.
2. Second, This is our idea, and we should run with it....some other group or individual may simply take what we post and claim it as their own.
3. Third, We will want the blessing of Bioware, and the professionalism of the CTP, DLA, and CEP projects on this team. I would rather see a small group of dedicated folks like we have here, than every person in the NWN community all trying to contribute and us trying to manage.
There is no doubt that this project will interest the community, and we will only get one chance to do it right. Darkness as a premium module was in production for over a year, with some top notch people working on it, and yet many people in the community had no idea it existed till this month. We could do something very similiar with the CMP or whatever we decide to call it. Once we have it named and well into production, then we can look at maybe some advertising or soliciting new material or team members....
Shioni, whatever music we do start looking at for this project we will share amoung ourselves, so you will be able to hear anything that any of us start working on...dont worry about missing out.
By the way, about a year ago before I knew or had any idea of doing a community sound/music project, I downloaded every piece of sound or music that was on the vault and rated above a 7.0 (going back to 2002). It is a nice sized file that I really havnt done much with other than listen to, but we may be able to find some nice pieces in there to add to the new stuff you have collected. The system you have set up sounds like it will work well...maybe we should figure out a way that we can each review and comment on each file, then press on from there as far as what we collectively feel is the best of the community
I'd be interested in hearing some more pieces. I wasn't looking at ratings or anything - I just started at page 1 of the full listing and kept working my way back. As far as sharing it - I really can't take emails attachments due to slow dial-up issues (most of these tracks are 1MB+) unless they show up during the work day so I can check/download while at work. We can figure something out, I'm sure.
The one thing I wish I would have done while collecting was to keep the URL for each track I downloaded, or at least the date it was posted. Having that in the database would have been helpful (or even just setting up some sort of database, even if it's just a spreadsheet).

I concur. Let's have something to show before we show up - the worst thing to do is advertise before we do the leg-work to get permission secured to use tracks, and before we've vetted the tracks we want to include. It would be cool if we could get some "previously unreleased" tracks to add to the project, as well.
I'm curious what the status is on the canceled premium modules' tracks. I wonder if they'll be part of the 1.69 patch? Presumably, they're materials produced under contract to BioWare, so I would assume BioWare owns the copyright. Then again, with the canceled projects, I'm not sure how that shakes out.

It shakes out like this, no pay, no gain. So, if the mod was cancelled, then all works created for that mod belong to the peeps working on it. NOT Bioware.
There are some exceptions to this. For example, the TNO set that was used extensively in Darkness over Daggerford, was created by a different team, and it WAS paid for. So those set(s) belong to Bioware. However, Bioware did give them permission to release the sets. Even though, the version they released is incomplete.
The Voice Overs? Any music that was included? They all belong to Ossian. However, I think they would proabably allow you to use them, if you ask nicely.

Assuming those who have shown intrest thus far are going to run with this.. I'm 98% sure I can get ya'll set up with a nice, quiet, private board somewhere (Truth be told, the collective comes to mind, or if not there, I'll set you up with a subsection of my PW's forums which may streamline things while not adding workload for chris 'n/or ban-ban)
Anyway, Ossian I think should be easy enough to talk into this, Offhand, I'd list Hugie as one of the easier members to get a hold of. (I've added him to MSN and will adress the matter with him when he's added me and it seems convient for him) Personally speaking, I think it better to present the issue to a team member, who will then propose it to the team. Provided said team member likes the idea(I can handle that) its that more likely to be better recieved by the team overall.
I'll likewise keep an eye out for any composers, I use to have a few threads on the bioboards started by composers but those were subject to my seasonal cleaning and have since vanished(I think).
PS: Have Mic, would do custom voices if such were to be included, and anyone can set me on the right path to recording what sections PC's can acess.
PPS: Someone else probably wants to write the lines/accent if you want them to be stand-out voices. I like semi-generic.

sounds good...

Hey Mask,
That sounds like a great idea... I was thinking along those lines myself. If a premium mod is cancelled, than Bioware does not own the rights to whatever is in those mods...only the creators. That goes for any mods out there that have custom sounds or music. Maybe we can also look at having Bannor contact someone within DLA about the custom sounds and music they did for Solace and the upcoming Crowns. From what I read that Lisa posted along with her custom stuff for Solace, the team at DLA are looking at releasing everything they have made for NWN1 that is either finished or close to being finished..... that may mean that they also have voice overs, sounds, and music that they made but never released that they may let us use for this project. We may also find other things out there that we can get permission to use from their creators. I think once we have some top notch stuff in our inventory, we may attract some custom creators to our team. I will upload the music file I had to usendit, and post the link.

Here is a little tool that might help you guys with your sound editing plans.
I have NOT tested this, so can't comment on how well it works.

I was just looking at that - which brings the question: is the CMP including soundsets outside of music (ambient noises, voicesets)? I personally am more focused on music (I've downloaded 134 tracks dating back to 01 Sept 2003), but I don't see any reason not to look at other types of sound as well.
