Herrik Aseph ceased to exist during the basic training he endured when he was chosen from the ranks of the army of Amn. Basic training found his drill sergeant naming him Mist for his talent of disappearing right off the training ground and when tracked down slipping through the fingers of his pursuers (and also because he didn’t get hit near as often as the other recruits). Mist didn’t disappear often but he did it as the mood struck him.
One night shortly after the completion of his basic training, in the barracks, he was alone in his wakefulness staring at an unusually dark corner. He shook his head and tried to go to sleep dismissing it as a trick of the light and his overly active imagination. And soon he was asleep. When he woke he was no longer in the barracks of the Amn Army. “Where am I?” he whispered to himself as he looked around the room, it seemed empty.
“You are in the Hold of Amn’s most elite, and secret, unit. We have been watching you Herrik Aseph, or should I call you Mist? ” A man standing at the foot of the bed said, Mist was certain that he hadn’t been there ten heartbeats ago. Not pausing for Mist to answer continued, “I am your new commanding officer High Fist Master Dancer. You’re assigned to Fist Master Smiles’ hand. He’ll explain your role in the hand and your duties as a member of the Shadowblades.” With that the man disappeared, and thus began Mist’s search for Fist Master Smiles, and the begginning of his career in the Shadowblades.

Mist was a talented man according to Fist Master Smiles, a man whose name had been given to him for one reason; he had always smiled during his basic training in the army of Amn. Mist had come to see another reason for the name… he would kill people by slitting their throat from ear to ear. Mist quickly earned a reputation among the Fists as being a very prolific killer. The fact that those who met him seemed to come away smiling at the least as he sang about his latest mission or telling some other tale he had heard at an inn somewhere, quickly got the attention of his superiors. About a year after becoming a member of the Shadowblades, he was given his own fist and the rank of Fist Master. When he first met his fist, he quickly went about getting to know and understand his men… what each could do, what they believed got them into the Shadowblades, and tearing down the wall that separated commander from soldier… though he left enough of the wall to let them know he was still in charge. The fists were meant to be self sufficient though able to support one another when working together in the field. His was no exception, containing himself, a dark elf mage by the name of Vindur... Mist couldn’t pronounce his house name, a human cleric of Cyric by the name of Zach Fenson, a human assassin by the name of Jarako Mars, and a half elf fighter who went by the name he had earned in the army of Amn like mist had, he went by Tar.

“Well, well, well… you see what happens when you try to assassinate me in my own tower,” the Mage said. Pinned to the wall of the tower by a magical force unseen but certainly felt and his fist in its entirety dead on the floor in front of him, Mist looked at the mage knowing he was next, knowing everyone of his men were dead because of his decision. The mage laughed chillingly before he spoke again, “Has the little bird lost his voice? No matter… you will sing your last song shortly.” The mage began to cast…
Mist shot upright from the bed roll he had laid out on the frozen ground in the northern tundra. He had been reliving that memory every time he closed his eyes since Fade had told him what she would do to his fist if he didn’t kill Randyl Vail, to make up for breaking a deal he had made with her… which he hadn’t actually broken as he wasn’t working for her when he went with Randyl, Seryne, Bolkus, Lagnar, and Salasan to battle the dragons of the dragon kin forest while he was preparing to rescue Silvis and Saber from the Lapis sense of justice.
When he was face to face with Fade (when she threatened him with his life and those of his fist’s members) he knew he couldn’t show her the weakness he was feeling in his heart as he relived the memory of his final mission… and the mistake he swore to himself he would never make again. Mist knew what he had to do…

Re: Into the Mist
Mist stood at the Lakes edge near the Lantern Light Woods looking out across the water at nothing in particular. His fiancée didn't remember him... she didn't remember much anyway. , and he didn't have the power to bring back her memories. Even all his gold couldn't buy them back... at least so far. Mist sighed. The Old Timer was back from Amn, that meant soon he could get on with building his keep for the Fist he hoped.
Mist sat down and took off his boots putting his feet in the water, memories flooded him with every wave of the lake. His fist dying, Karto consoling him and taking him to Lapis Port, making connections with the theives guild, the founding of the Fist with Karto and Saber, his theft from a temple to fund the fist and going to jail for it, his trial and oath, his adventure hunting mutant mind devourers in the jungle and finding out someone was going to attack Amn, Saber getting tossed in jail for standing up for a woman that appeared to be drow, the deals he had made with Alastair and Fade to get Saber and the drow woman out of jail.
Mist smiled with the next thoughts, meeting Rein near Shar's on the road to the Aramphel school, taking her under his wing and watching her skills grow, taking her to this same spot when she wanted to go swimming, it was their place, and then came their plans to marry. Mist frowned again as his thoughts took a dark turn... he would fix the problem with her memroies and if he couldn't... well he still loved her.
