Whats New with CMP?

Hey guys everyone, looks like we are stilling waiting for the Hall of Fame 6 month thing for CMP.

New things for CMP have slowed to a stop; I was thinking it might not be such a bad idea to start over on the entire project.

I'll try to post the beta patch with a better categorization of the music to see what people think. If any other project leaders what to put in some work we really need to figure out how we will introduce Battle Music.

I would also be planning on converting the CMP patch for NWN2, but I never got NWN2. I will be working on my own game next year called ?RFP?

Stopped? Heh. Not quite. Most folks are playing NWN2 (not me), so the requests for new NWN content have slowed some. I do have the combat music fleshed out but wanted to add it in release 1.5 along with other good contributions to the NWN music that have come out since the 1.0 release.

You (Shioni) have provided some suggestions, but most of the ideas from comments in the CMP dowload area are for soundtracks from "Lord of the Rings", "Conan", etc. which of course, we can't use.

I also have been working on my MoreDoors hak v4.0 which is about finished as well. I know Clarkycat and Travis Richards have released some new stuff on the vault since 1.0 - see if you like their stuff and I'll convert it for 1.5. Let's plan on having the 1.5 release out before Christmas. Our minimum goal will be combat music and 25 new tracks - sound good?

I kind of wanted to see a few new tracks from the U5 Luxurious guys at http://lazarus.thehawkonline.com/music.html

I suppose I'll pick the ones I was talking about and just email them. I didn?t want to use them without asking but they don?t give us any real contact information so it?s a safe bet to just use the ones we want and give people a link to that page in our credits

Any word on CMP compatibility with NWN2? Was wondering because our PW Aythor: Elderland Colonies could really use some custom music. I listened to some of the files through my windows media player and can say they would work for many of the areas I am working on.

Thanks, keep up the work!

They're not directly compatible as the NWN2's ambientmusic.2da uses the rows that are used by CMP music - but I think it can be made compatible easily (as both files use the same colums :) ) - you just need to put the CMP music lower (perhaps start with 190 instead of 90?). They use different ways to separate colums (tabs instead of spaces like in CMP 2da), but I think it shouldn't be a problem.

Please note that I was comparing 1.02 version of NWN2 file (Obsidian is late with localized patches :( ).

PS. I will try out the 2da for NWN2 with CMP and see how it works - and if it does, I will post it here. :)

I have both good news and bad news:

The good news is that bmu files work with NWN2 - so Tiberius don't need to recode them to Wav ones. Also, NWN2 works well with haks created by NWN1's nwhak.exe and accepts both spaces and tabs in 2da files.

The bad news is that you need a custom tlk file to be visible in the NWN2 toolset (or at least use existing tlk lines). So far I have created an ugly hack of the CMP hak - it works but it's not very useable (because I used the lines from the game default tlk). I will try to make a custom tlk and post the results when I am done.

Another bad news is that as of version 1.02 of NWN2, the toolset doesn't recognize custom tlk files. So you need to back up your default dialog.tlk (and dialogF.tlk) file, resize and add the CMP entries with a tlk editor (I use Java-based TlkEdit by EwaldTheUnimaginative). Bad Obsidian!

This is how I add the CMP music to the module:
  1. Back up dialog.tlk, dialogF.tlk and your module file.
  2. Add CMP bmu files to your music subdirectory of NWN2 user directory (which is in turn a subdirectory of user's My Documents).
  3. Add CMP hak file to hak subdirectory of BOTH NWN2 user directory AND NWN2 main directory.
  4. Add CMP entries to the dialog.tlk and dialogF.tlk in the NWN2 main directory (they should have entries 185000-185235, of which the first line is just an information note). Resize the tlk tables if necessary. (Note: if the game finally supports the custom tlk files, then just copy cmp.tlk file to tlk subdirectory of both the NWN2 main directory and NWN2 user directory, and don't bother with changing dialog.tlk and dialogF.tlk files.)
  5. In the NWN2 toolset, add CMP hak to the list of haks used by the module (and CMP.tlk as the custom tlk file IF the game is ready for it - which as of 1.02 is NOT.)
  6. Now you should be able to choose the CMP music for your areas. :)
I have attached a zip file with the needed files - and added modified ambientmusic.2da as a reference.

This is all good stuff, but could we please keep NWN and NWN2 stuff separated?

I've been reading a few different boards now and NWN and NWN2 stuff is just getting intermingled, makes it very tough when trying to sort between the two. Especially when performing searches.

Or include NWN or NWN2 in the title.

Thanks!

/Tristan.

I sincerely apologize - it wasn't my intention to make it hard to search on the forums. Perhaps a forum modderator could move my NWN2 posts to a new thread - so it won't confuse anyone.

Going back to the topic - I'd love to see some new music added to the pack (I particularily like some pieces from Stefan Gagne's Eternum series).

Man I am turning into a lurker hehe, but I?ve been working on a few custom sound/graphic mods for other games.

Good Job on handling the nwn2 area Wojek. I?m not planning on getting involved with that client until after I upgrade my system in the not so near future.

Also you guys can feel free to chat about ideas for making CMP work however you want. I was thinking about making a 350 song upgraded hac; only all the songs are blank and you can use a program to add your own custom music.

Its amazing how much stuff you throw together to make something cool and before its done you have less then a tenth of what you started with. >_<
